Development System Disturbance Emission ESA 1

Device GP 21
Device GP 23 base plate

GP 23 Base plate

Dimensions: 900 x 500 mm
Valid for the installed filters:

  • max. continuous current: 10 A
  • max. operating voltage: 50 V

The GP 23 metal base plate is the reference plate for the measurement set-up. It contains the filters to supplying the unit under test and pre-amplifier as well as the output of the latter. The nickel-plated surface ensures a steady and reliable conductive connection to the HFW 21 RF current transformer or HFA 21 RF bypass.

Device Tent
Device Z21 shielding tent

Z21 Shielding tent

Dimensions: 900 x 500 x 400 mm

The shielding tent has been designed to shield the measurement set-up against external RF fields. In case of problems in the VHF range or particularly high demands on the unit under test as in the automobile industry, for instance, a conductive housing has to be used as a shield against ambient disturbance field. The front of the shielding tent can be opened separately to ensure quick alternation between measuring and modifying. You can tilt the whole tent backward for ease of accessibility.

Device HFW 21
Device HFW 21 current transformer

HFW 21 RF current transformer

Measuring range: 100 kHz - 1 GHz
max. continuous current: 10 A
max. operating voltage: 50 V
Dimensions: 135 x 32 x 28 mm

The RF current transformer measures high-frequency currents of up to 1 GHz on lines and diverts these currents to the base plate. It´s connected with the amplifier and The RF current transformer enables separate measurements of RF common-mode and differential-mode currents.

Device HFA 21
Device HFA 21 RF bypass

HFA 21 RF bypass

Capacity: 10 pF - 100 nF
max. operating voltage: 50 V
Dimensions: 70 x 50 x 18 mm

The RF bypass supplements the RF current transformer by providing another capacitive or conductive connection from the unit under test to the GP 23 base plate if necessary. It is mainly used to simulate the data lines connected in normal operation and their capacitance relative to the surroundings. The HFA 21 contains capacitances and defined RF currents can thus be diverted to the base plate.

Devices Near Field Probes
Devices Near Field Probes

Near Field Probes

You will find the descriptions of the characteristics of the single probes under  near field probes type RF.

ESA 1 contains 11 various near field probes for measuring high-frequency magnetic and electric fields. The probes are connected to the preamplifier instead of the HFW 21 and enable measurements in the area of the module, on tracks and components. The aim is to find the RF field sources on the module in the unit under test and to detect and understand the respective emission mechanisms.

Device PA 203
Device PA 203 preamplifier

PA 203 preamplifier

Operating voltage: 6...18 V
Current input: 25 mA
max. input power: +13 dBm
Amplifying: 20 dB
Noise figure: 4.5 dB
Frequency range: 100 kHz - 3 GHz
Dimensions: 50 x 38 x 13 mm

The 20 dB preamplifier operates in the frequency range between 100 kHz and 3 GHz and is suitable for measurements with the RF current transformer and near field probes. The input and output are designed as 50 Ohm BNC plug-and-socket connectors and can thus be operated with any spectrum analyser or oscillograph. The preamplifier is operated inside the shielding tent during measurements with the ESA1 system. Filters are provided in the GP 23 base plate for the preamplifier's output line and power supply. The output signal reaches the spectrum analyser via the enclosed double-shielded BNC cable.
